This is not the end

As the LGBTQ+ pride month is now behind us and our corporate “allies” are rapidly pulling that rainbow filter from their logos and Facebook pages, let us remind ourselves that the fight isn’t over yet. There are still too many countries in the world where a same sex partnership isn’t an option, too many places where any activity of a sexual or romantic nature between people of the same sex is illegal. Also, let’s not forget those countries that have adopted a deliberately vague law against the “promotion” of a non heterosexual lifestyle in public spaces. On a lower level, there are still too many ugly ass cis heterosexual men feinting a fear of being jumped on by a dirty homosexual. Oh honey, It ain’t gonna happen! We’re not that desperate. There are too many bigoted bible bashers, heinously hypocritical haters and irritatingly ignorant idiots. My message to them is…

You just need to take several seats and then try to restore the peace
And control your urges to scream about all the people you hate
‘Cause shade never made anybody less gay
(©Taylor Swift – You Need To Calm Down)

I have always experienced Second Life™ as mostly a safe space for the LGBTQ community and as place where you can freely experiment with who you want to be. One of my favorite sims is the Oost West gay residential estate, where a community of like-minded guys enjoy fun, freedom and misadventure. You don’t have to live there to enjoy the estate, as there a plenty of inviting communal spaces and areas of virtual natural beauty to explore. While we’re all still hoping for a real world in which at the very least everyone realises that what two consenting adults get up to in the bedroom (or any other private space) is none of their bloody business, we at least have a safe virtual space to positive experiences. Meanwhile, let’s keeping hoping and fighting for a better world and remember that there is no shame in being who you are.
