Baby it’s getting cold outside

While I haven’t turned my tiny Second Life™ habitat into a mini winter wonderland just yet, in real life the weather gods have been rather enthusiastic with the white powdery stuff, as if Stockholm is some kind of flawed cake they’re desperately trying to cover up. It’s been kinda nice the past couple of days, with a few hours of glorious sunshine to give that snowy cityscape a beautiful glow and cause just the tiniest hint of snow blindness.

This weather is making me wish I had a fireplace in my apartment. I know that the idea of a wood burning heat source just for cosiness isn’t an environmentally smart one, but I can’t help but yearn for it. Luckily installing a fireplace in SL is pretty effortless -just fork over some lindens at your favourite furniture store- and lighting it is completely guilt free. With a bit of luck it will include the sound effect of a roaring fire and if you glue your face to a mega big screen, you can almost feel it. Put a candle next to your PC and rub your hands over it for extra effect. Also, have a cup of hot chocolate. Of course your favourite woolly jumper should be part of this little fantasy too and if you like the idea of an 80’s vibe, why not pull on a pair of legwarmers and play Wham’s “Last Christmas” on repeat.

Alternatively, find your yourself a swanky hotel with a fireplace in your room. Eye wateringly expensive, sure, but you only live once! Of course, returning to real life after such an outing can be a bit of hard bump. With a bit of luck though, there will be snow on the ground to cushion your fall. And just like that I’ve come full circle with this meandering nonsensical monologue and it’s time to throw a list of credits at ya’ll. Or as Mariah would say: it’s tiiiiiiiiime!
