The sexy new Noche shorts I got for my previous blog post definitely needed another airing. As one can very easily wear such a skimpy garment on the beach, I decided it was already time for another session of virtual beach therapy. OK, as far as therapy goes, maybe it’s not that effective, but it definitely is a lot cheaper than counselling. Who was ever helped by droning on and on about one’s problems to a perfect stranger anyway? What’s that? Many people? What do you know? Also, nothing stops you from doing that in Second Life™, if you go on Voice. Sure, there’s a big chance that the aforementioned stranger in this case will not be particularly well trained and equipped with he necessary attitude to listen to all your shit, without giving your a dose of rather unprofessional “tough love”, but you can always give it a go and see what happens. In all likelihood they will probably just transport away.
Anywhoo, let’s find a beach! I used the destination guide in the SL viewer this time to look at the Editor’s Picks and decided on visiting Triton’s Reef.
“Triton’s Reef is a public and inclusive sailing destination and hangout spot for all Blake Sea enthusiasts and the merfolk of Second Life. The destination is beautifully landscaped both above and below the water to merge Blake Sea’s two biggest communities. Triton’s Reef is located right next to the Linden Channel, making it an easily accessible northern destination for sailors. It also neighbors the Safe Water Foundation, Second Life’s most renowned community for merfolk.“
Quote from SL’s Destination Guide
The above water part, as they call it, is quite small but perfectly formed and there is something to be said for good things that come in small packages and by all means do feel free to enter your own innuendo right here. One of the two small islands has a relatively spacious platform for parties, so I’m guessing it occasionally hosts events with a DJ. I also spotted a sailboat and some people whizzing around on a jetski, so it definitely isn’t a dead sim. Hitting a bit of traffic is a good thing in Second Life.

I made sure to check out the underwater area. I may not have mermaid’s tale, but I’ve got tone of swimwear and it was a good excuse to take out the old diver’s helmet I picked up with a Madpea event years ago. Seriously, like YEARS ago! As for the swimwear, I went with a classic 1930’s men’s bathing sooth. One wouldn’t want to be underdressed when one runs into merfolk now, would one?! As it was, I only saw one slink around by above water while I was busy taking a picture. Personally I’d prefer if it was like in the movie Splash! As you go on land and your tail dries out, it turns into legs. Get them wet again and hé presto, there’s your tail. Bit of a bugger on rainy days though.
I wonder if one can still call it virtual “beach” therapy if one spends most of the time under water? Then again, the sand does note stop at the water’s edge, so perhaps the ocean’s floor is just an underwater beach? Hmmm… I’ll leave you with that food for thought and the credits as I go shower the salt out of my hair and the sand out of my you now what.
